TEST & SCORE: Your Blueprint for Success̥®.

The UPSC IES/ISS Exam is a national-level competitive test conducted annually by the Union Public Service Commission to recruit Group ‘A’ Gazetted Officers into two specialized administrative cadres: the Indian Economic Service (IES) and the Indian Statistical Service (ISS). [1, 2, 3]

Eligibility Criteria

  • Age Limit: Candidates must be between 21 and 30 years old as of August 1st of the exam year, with standard government relaxations for reserved categories. [4, 5, 6, 7]
  • IES Education: A Post-Graduate/Master’s degree in Economics, Applied Economics, Business Economics, or Econometrics. [4, 8, 9]
  • ISS Education: A Bachelor’s degree with Statistics, Mathematical Statistics, or Applied Statistics as a main subject, OR a Master’s degree in Statistics. [4, 10, 11, 12]

Selection Process

The selection protocol relies entirely on a cumulative merit system split across two main stages: [1, 13]

  1. Written Examination (1000 Marks): Multi-day offline pen-and-paper test comprising six distinct papers.
  2. Viva Voce / Personality Test (200 Marks): An interview round assessing candidate aptitude, leadership qualities, and intellectual curiosity. [1, 13, 14, 15]

Exam Pattern & Syllabus Split

While the first two papers are shared uniformly by both services, the specialized core domain subjects vary significantly. [13, 16]
